My First Time using Smile Brilliant

In the quest for whiter teeth, there are so many options available that you might get dizzy sorting through the best ones. One thing I didn't like about Crest white strips was how sensitive it made my teeth and gums so I was super excited to try a product that wasn't so harsh. You might remember that I used a carbon powder last year and did notice results with the strength of my teeth. Since then, I've cut back on lemon water and upped my flossing game! I've used a wide array of whitening products, but recently I got to try a custom whitening kit for the first time. A huge thanks to the Smile Brilliant team for sending me this amazing kit :) If you haven't heard of a custom whitening kit, it's exactly as it sounds, a kit made from the mold of your teeth. Say whaaaaaat?! My thoughts exactly. Imagine, a whitening system designed for your teeth, and your teeth only. I love being a guinea pig for this kind of stuff 😂

Step One- The first step in creating your mold is to prepare the putty by mixing the base and catalyst. You get enough material for your top and bottom teeth, plus extra in case you make a mistake. The key to making a good mold is to mix the base paste and catalyst paste well. It feels like playdoh and spreads well when you put it on the tray. Once the putty is in the tray, line it up with your teeth and bite down. Use caution here since the putty will spread and I was caught off guard the first time. It took everything I could muster not to gag since the putty was spreading out the back and sides of the tray! I hope in the future a smaller tray is available for those with smaller jaws!! It's also important to note that you must relax and let the putty harden a bit around your teeth. I suggest doing this in the bathroom because since I couldn't close my mouth, I found myself drooling like an infant! Not so sexy...

My first set of molds didn't come out well and I got another set of material in the mail to make another mold. No worries if you don't get it right the first time. I think that I didn't wait long enough and my mold didn't look exactly like the example picture. I got it right the second time though!

Step Two- Once your molds are set and you've placed it in the mail, you will get an email when the lab receives and are making your custom trays. OHHH YEAH BABY!!

Step Three- Once you get your whitening trays back, the fun begins! You will get a set of whitening gel and a set of desensitizing gel. I like that you can control how much gel goes into your tray, so you don't have to worry about the gel harming your gums like other products might do. The gel tastes ok, slightly minty but still a bit like the Crest whitestrips. I like putting my trays on before bed because you should leave the trays on your teeth for at least an hour for best results. I'm way too busy during the day so evening teeth whitening works best for me!

As you can see from the before and after pictures, I did notice a subtle brightening. I eat a lot of staining foods and drink a lot of tea (which I just found out can stain more than coffee--what the heck?!) and I was happy to see that the stains between my teeth have vanished. I got much better results from these custom fitted trays that any other whitening product I've tried. This would work well for everyone since you have full control every step of the way. Since the trays are custom fitted, this would even work for people with crooked or less than perfectly straight teeth :)
